Logitope offers support around the whole workflow involved in translation projects. Often, this includes tasks such as converting non-editable files into DOC, optimizing the source files for Computer Aided Translation (CAT), or formatting the resulting target files. Whether your files are already compatible with CAT or need to be converted into a different format, we ensure that:

  • translators can use CAT, and the resulting translation memory is segmented correctly
  • the word-count analysis returns the minimal—correct—result
  • translators are not slowed down by bad formatting, such as excess line breaks
  • your translation project is not affected by software problems
  • the workload for post-formatting the target files is minimized

The flowchart below shows two principal approaches to handling files that are not compatible with CAT. Strategy 2 works only if the source files are available in an editable format, while strategy 1 can also be employed for scans or other image-based formats.

Translation of
CAT-incompatible files

Strategy 1 - any type of files

Strategy 2 - only editable files

Conversion of the source files into a Word or InDesign file with identical layout

Extraction of all text from the source files into an Excel/Word table

CAT-based translation of converted files

CAT-based translation of Excel/Word table

Adjust layout, if necessary

Create and format target file with the appropriate application (you or us)

Delivery of professionally formatted Word file to end client

Delivery of ready-to-print file to end client

Especially strategy 2 can also prove useful when the files are compatible with CAT, but some of the translators don't have suitable software. On the following page, the advantages and disadvantages of these two strategies are compared with direct translation in CAT.
